Thanks, but everything they list was released in the mid-60s or later - after his death - and none of it is on Decca or Capitol Records. He was clearly a sensation in the late 50's when Webley Edwards' Hawaii Calls was releasing their first half dozen or so Capital lps, and Apaka was serving as music director overseeing entertainment at Henry K's Hawaiian Village, including Martin Denny's combo. Most of the Decca and Capital stuff (that doesn't refer to his passing) should be dated from that time period. [ Edited by: Kailuageoff 2010-03-17 15:14 ] |

Alfred Apaka Often mentioned as the Bing Crosby of Hawaii & the voice of Pre-Statehood Hawaii. His sudden death in 1960 ended a promising career. AA was introduced on American television by Bob Hope and already treated like an adopted son by Henry J. Kaiser with his Hawaiian Village! Thortiki |

No Apaka collection is complete without 'the Tapa Tapes', the few salvaged air shots of the evening shows from the Hilton's, Tapa Room, Alfred backed by his all-star band. Hard to find, but worth it. |

Interesting side note, the lady next to Alfred is the mother of the late comedian, Rap Reiplinger, a Hawaii legend. [ Edited by: msteeln 2010-03-25 20:30 ] |
