I recently picked up three of the fun little Menehune drink postcards from the
Surf Bar at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Hawaii.

My favorite, the Kava Bowl

The cards have a a little story on the back

And a kind of hologram on the Menehune.

I have seen three other cards over the years inlcuding

Here is a postcard from 1955 showing the exterior of the Surf Bar building and the outdoor terrace area.

The Surf Bar became Surf Room and is now the Mai Tai Bar. Here is a Surf Room menu.

I found this cool old surf board in an on-line auction:

This board started out as one of the fleet of rental boards for the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. It then had the center cut out, with a menu board added and became the welcoming sign for both the famous "Surf Room" and the ever present "Mai Tai Bar".

When Sheraton took over the management of the hotel, the board was recycled again into the using the opposite side for the "Uluniu Beach Club" snack bar!. Talk about a piece of surfing history, this is certainly it! One of a kind, un-restored, all original, wood sign board.

I picked up another drink card from the Surf Bar. This one is called the Kamaaina, a gin based tropical served in a coconut.
