What's the tiki connection? Well, it's hosted by King Kukulele! Plus, I carved the tiki trophy for the surf contest, and I'll also be there doing tiki carving demonstration.

This event is being put on by Cindy Kauanui, the mother of Emery Kauanui, who was killed three years ago.

It's this Monday the 31st, all day.

Come say Hi!

Wasn't Emery the Hawaiian-born kid that got beat to death by a bunch of La Jolla jocks?

Sad, tragic and completely avoidable situation.

Good to see the La Jolla community is keeping his memory alive somehow.

Thanks for posting this Bill. G

Yeah, that's right.:( I never knew him, but my wife knows the mom, and knew him, from way back.

bump. this needs to be noticed by locals

I'll see you up there Bill.

Bonair & Neptune are the cross streets I assume. I hope Neptune is closed.

People should try
to park on Bonair, Nautilus, La Jolla Blvd, playa del norte and playa del sur. AS Close to Neptune as possible. It is only a five minute or less
walk from la jolla blvd.

I married a couple right there on the rocks last year.

Erik the Red is an ordained minister, why does that not surprise me? :)

I just saw this--I'm gonna go--Sad story, and for a good cause.

I wish I had more heads up on this , I probably would have gone .

Cindy did a great job putting this event on.

There is still time to make the sunset candle ceremony.

I have some pics, too!
It was a stunningly gorgeous spot, I had never been to Windansea before.
I was going to setup off to the side, but one of the guys in charge suggested I take this spot:

Ideal! Waves crashing feet below me. :D

This is looking to the right.

To the left was the L+L Hawaiian food booth. We had to endure the aroma of BBQ teryaki chicken all day!

Further left.

King Kukulele as MC.

Hula dancers.

Here's the surf contest trophy I carved, with the plaque put on.

Awesome, sorry I missed it.

Beautiful spot for this event. Great pics, Bill - I guess as close to Hawaii your're gonna get on the So-Cal shore isn't it?

Thanks for posting. G

One more pic! This was emailed to me today. I didn't stay to see the contest winner, so they sent me a pic. Winner is wearing the white shirt in the center.

That kid has stoked written all over his face! Sweet trophy, great cause!
