Time for another fun day at Doheny State beach for their 4th annual Surf O'Rama. This just
gets bigger and better every year. There will be several surf bands playing, Hawaiian dancers,
as well as Tahitian drummers. There will be about 75 vendors offering surf, tiki, and Hawaiian related
products for sale and grilled food galore. There will be vintage Airstream trailers on display and many
woodies wagons as well.Last year there were many famous surfers from the past in attendance.
This year Mike Hyson surfer -shaper from "Endless Summer" fame will be there signing his new book
release.Fun for the whole family in a great setting at historical Doheny State park beach.

Once again, No info on who the bands are.
Last year you said there was going to be surf bands.
but then nothing.

sad.
there is over 50 surf bands in So. Cal.
and they hire none of them.

I don't put the show on or have anything to do with that.I agree with you Jeff they
should give more information on their media release ...what band is playing etc.
I will see what I can find out.

I can find their page describing the event,
http://www.dohenystatebeach.org/2010_surf-a-rama-pr.htm

But I don't see where it says there will be any surf bands.

Lugi...I just called the person that puts the event on Nyle and he is going to
call me back with more info. It's the same surf band that played last two years .
The leader of the band is Steve Wonderly. They are from the San Diego area .
The Polynesian review is performed by a group called Lei Polynesia .I will get
back when I have more info on the surf band.

you'd think if this was some big time professional event.
They would know the names of the bands in advance, and include it in the info.
Seems like last year I found a phone number for someone involved.
I called and left a message asking who was playing.
and Never heard back.

sad, and lame.

Nyle Schafhauser(714-241-1953) this is his show ....nice guy .

Isn't this section for California Tiki Events????

To be fair to the Event.
I think that surf related beach events have a tiki connection.

But I have a bad itching feeling that they wont have any surf bands.

I'm done .

HA!!!!
you'd think you would have learned by now.

Jeff(btd)

Damn guys! What's with busting Bills Stones?
BTD did you go on the web site? It's the Doheny State Beach Interpretive Association...docents you know? (Google it) This is a real nice local get together, low budget fun day at the beach, I said this last year too, I had a fun day, heard some good music, cool woodies and paddled out as well.
Go have fun and chill.
Added this for the edit; I wish they had not ripped off Rick Griffin on their poster but...

if people are doing an event,
it shouldn't be that hard to let the public know who the entertainment is.
last year was the same issue.

Dude!, dude. Looks like a great time WITHOUT KNOW WHO'S PLAYING!

Exactly BB.... you got that right. It was an awesome day .Mike Hynson was super cool
and very gracious .There were some unbelievable historical photos of Killer Dana
breaking at 25-30 ft.in the 60's before the lame Dana Point harbor was built.
Possibly one of the best breaking waves in California in it's day.
Have a swell day!

I wonder if that's Jeff Hakmans old gun from when he was a grom? $6,000 is actually a fair price (even if it wasn't Jeff's).

Thanks for the photos! Looks like a fun day!
