Not sure if this was posted anywhere else in TC if so I didn't see it.

good reason for a new ride!

2010 Jeep Wrangler Islander

The Wrangler Islander marks the return of a trim package
that was available more than 20 years ago.
The new Islander is available in blue, silver, white, or black
(in either two- or four-door body styles)
and features the resurrected “Tiki Bob” logo on the hood and seats.

Seventeen-inch wheels, 32-inch tires, bright blue interior upholstery,
and rubber floor mats are also added,
but that’s it.

The Islander adds $1120 to the price of a standard Wrangler or Wrangler Unlimited.

quite lame effort - they should have invested a little more brain ...

some decals for a few dollars ??
... no wonder chrysler is going belly up ...

Wow - I could make my POS Honda Accord look more Tiki than that! LOL I'm heading out to the local party store to stock up on vinyl Tiki Stickers, fake leis and the obligatory dancing hula girl, then I'm headed to the 7-11 for a tropical air freshener. Voila - instant Tiki-mobile for under 100 bucks! I'll just roll down the windows to feel the wet/icy NW Washington wind in my hair and against my face and I can just feel myself transported to...the mental ward of our local hospital!

So negative! I saw it, I thought it was kind of nice. They even made their own tiki to show with it. The upgraded wheels and tires are most of the expense for the package. Here are some photos from the Detroit Auto Show:

They provide some tiki. You can add the tacky.

TT

Maybe they should have made it a boat, considering the longitude and latitude referenced on the decal:

21 degrees N, 157 degrees W

Nice try Chrysler.

That's funny! Why couldn't they have actually put coordinates to a more specific place? I know my gps can get me within 10 feet of just about anywhere. At the very least ... LAND.

Jeeps are amphibious aren't they?

DC

I would only be interested if it comes with the tiki featured in the plex-glass. ???

The tiki should be the hood ornament!

Pretty darn cool if you ask me. The jeep Wrangler is the only way to travel on the Big Island of Hawaii....Off Road baby !

I am a Jeep person, my first being an old 1970's CJ 7 that I had in the 1980's. I am currently on my second Wrangler. I have mixed feelings about this one.

I appreciate the 'tiki' element they are trying to convey. Some modifications could go along way, you could trip out the floor with bamboo mats, idol on the dash etc. But these are simple cosmetic things.

I am not crazy about the color, the logo is ok, and the seats are so-so. They are certainly not things you could change easily. (Especially for the money you are paying for a Jeep, which is a pretty utilitarian vehicle).

That and mule! I LOVE the BI and hope to retire there some day!

some years ago there was a special Jeep edition called SAHARA .
the colour-combination of this Jeep would have been the perfect basis
for the 2010 "islander"/"tiki"-model !

The blue/black-colour-combination don´t make sense
and the seats (no leather)look cheap ...

Car and Driver says it's available in black, white, and silver also. I'm guessing with the same blue/black seats.

They still make the Sahara, BTW. And leather? In a Wrangler? Seriously? Like someone else said these are utilitarian vehicles. I think you're supposed to be able to clean the interior with a hose!

TT

Well, I hope you got your orders in!

Dig this, from today's edition of the trade publication Automotive News:

"One of the vehicles, the Jeep Wrangler Islander special edition, isn't even available anymore; it sold out in three days, said Jeep CEO Michael Manley. The brand is making just 5,000 copies of the Islander, a $1,200 beach-themed option package."

I hope it has brakes.

I have a 2004 Jeep, and I am wondering if they will every sell the decal alone to slap on the side of my jeep---minus the latitude and longitude sticker. Not a fan of the interior colors on the 2010.

Hmm...'thinking about tikifing the '92 Cherokee....

I like it. I hope GM manufactures more as it is a proven seller.
It doesn't make any sense not to sell a car which is high in demand. Asinine.

But that makes it "special" and they can extract huge sums of money for the original sale and the buyer can extract even BIGGER sums in the future!

I saw this on Jeep's website:

The Hunt Has Come to an End
Thanks to all the participants of the Jeep Islander Tiki Hunt. All three Jeep Tikis — Jeep Tiki Wave, Jeep Tiki Steel and Jeep Tiki Trail — have all been found along with the Jeep Tweet-to-Win contest Tiki.
This quest may be over, but continue to follow our trail on Facebook and Twitter.

It's blue like the waters of the Pacific yet also charcoal grey like the waters of Manila. Or maybe it's blackish like the barbeque you just burned. Whichever.

Let's not forget how Pele has designed the Big Island.
I love the dramatic contrast of the black volcanic rock against the light blue Pacific.
The Islander Jeep captures Pele's color pallete.

Sorry, grabbed some pics off of the internet to carry on my
iPod Touch as they look just like mine. I've got the "Surf
Blue" color. Probably most popular since it matches the in-
terior. Also available in off-white (I've seen an "Unlimited"
(four door) version in that color on a Lansing MI lot), black
and another color (grey?). So far, I have put locking lug
nuts, neoprene/nylon-webbing grab handles above the doors, a
"stars and strips" antenna ball and a "stars and stripes"
"peace hand" on it... and a 3-ball plus a hook hitch with a
locking hitch pin and I got two 8500# tow straps for it.
Now I need to get busy ripping my CD's and LP's so I can
burn them on DVD's so I have all of my tunes with me in case
the satellite radio isn't giving me anything that I want to
listen to (especially since no exotica channel). :( I'm
listening to 70's on 7 and ClscVinyl mostly for now (I DID
tune in Margaritaville as JB was doing a live thing before
his Pine KaNOB show last week... I know, OFF-TOPIC but so is
the 70's/Vinyl). Searched online and found someone who has
a tiki "rear window graphic" like you see on pick-ups, etc.
that looks solid from outside but you can see back out from
the inside. MIGHT get one at some point. I'm thinking of get-
ting a plain black vinyl spare tire cover and a "vinyl stick-
er" of the "Only In A Jeep" logo with the windshield and the
grille/headlights and put the sticker on the spare tire cover
(since I can't find one online). Oh, I also bought two Jeep
vinyl stickers (one "Jeep" and one "It's A Jeep Thing... You
Wouldn't Undersand") but may not end up putting either on
this Jeep... we'll see.

I imagine that the sticker, as on the 2010 Islander,
SHOULD be available through parts in the event that an
Islander is damaged and sent to the body shop. I am not
sure if they will sell to you if you don't have an actual
Islander or not, though, but likely would, I think. I will
try to remember to ask the parts guys the next time that
I am at the dealership. Probably NOT inexpensive, though.

T

I wonder if the decal is available through parts and you don't own a jeep, we could start a black market jeep tiki decal through the people who actually own jeeps.

I believe their INTENT was to reference the Hawaiian Islands without getting TOO specific. After all, those
coordinates are NEAR the geographic center of the island chain, are a lot "neater" than throwing in minutes
and seconds and, finally, since no specific Hawaiian location is referenced, one can think of it as Honolulu
or The Big Island or the North Shore or wherever is one's "ideal" Hawaiian location. Some would probably opt
for Honolulu (the yuppies who won't Jeep-wave me) or Hilo (where I imagine LOTS of folks drive Jeeps AND Jeep-wave until their arms feel like they are about to fall off). Personally, I'd probably opt for Little Beach IF
I could afford to live their (it would be the Big Island for me IF I ever decided to do the Hapa Haole thing.

$92.33 w/ shipping from a Jeep dealer (not sure if they are charging a premium or not), apparently for a pair

T

A little more expensive, but you can buy just one:

Disappointed with the new Islander!

I love Jeeps and I love our polynesion-pop tiki culture, but this isn't the best mix of two icons. Too lame...

I have a hot little Wrangler that I use to cruise down to the surf, and I honestly think that my little softop is cheaper and sexier than the new Islander.

That said, at $50, perhaps I could update my bonnet decal to the Islander and enjoy the best of both worlds.
