A new book was published last week containing many pieces of correspondence written by Ronald Reagan over the years, to world leaders, Nancy, and friends. One of the letters, written back to a friend who'd asked his advice about sex, goes like this: "Even in marriage, I've had a little guilty feeling about sex, as if the whole thing was tinged with evil." But, Ronnie recounted, he had later been told about the behaviour of Polynesian Islanders, and he wrote, "These people who are truly children of nature, and thus of God, accept physical desire as a natural, normal appetite." Is there no end to the wisdom of Pacific Islanders?
