restoring bamboo advice? - Other Crafts

I'm hoping i can at least fix one of those problems with advice from TC'ers. I've never had luck staining bamboo in a way that can withstand sunlight, and it looks like the builder of this hammock hasn't either. the challenges i can see so far: stripping the old stain off the poles looks easy, much more difficult on the surfaces of the hammock itself. can this surface be restored / brightened in some way? sealing or staining the hammock with a product thats flexible enough and won't rub off when sitting on it? staining the bamboo poles and not having them fade immediately in the sunlight? does this style of hammock/swing/chair/whatever have some other name i should be calling it? thanks in advance!
