It looks like Dayton may have a new tiki bar by the time Surf Ohio Festiki rolls around on Aug. 14! Sloopy’s, a longtime nightclub on the Fifth Street entertainment strip in Dayton’s Oregon Arts District, is changing its name and theme to become “Bar Tiki.”

The owners are using “Beachbum Berry Remixed” as the basis for their cocktail menu. They are looking for artwork, carvings and other such items from local tiki artists to decorate the bar.

The Sloopy’s folks also own Chappy’s Tap Room, a successful craft brew bar and restaurant in Dayton’s south suburbs.

Here is the scoop from Lori Yanko, one of the owners, about their plans and what they are looking for in terms of décor…

Hi Dave

We have finally decided to make the move to change Sloopys over to a Tiki Bar, we are going to call it Bar Tiki. Of course we are limited on funds to start with, but are trying our best to incorporate authentic Tiki cocktails and décor into our new place. I have checked out the F.O.M. website for ideas, etc. and was hoping any thoughts/contacts you could share to help us would be greatly appreciated. Dave and Jeff (the guy who is going to run the place for us) have both stopped in to talk to Bill at Daddy Katz, but if you know of anyone else locally who has artwork, carvings, etc. that they might be interested in selling or displaying in our place on consignment would be greatly appreciated.

We are going to try and open August 6th, but if that doesn’t work, we definitely hope to be open the next weekend and are working on either being a sponsor or at least setting up a booth at Festiki 2010.

We would appreciate any insight you can pass on to us!

Thanks
Lori Yanko
