Central Coast (CA) Tiki Peeps?

Just curious if there are any folks here from Paso Robles, Atascadero, Templeton, San Luis Obispo area? My wife and I just moved to the area last week (from So Cal) and would like to meet other local Tiki folks. Since there are no tiki bars here, it's not easy finding other tikiphiles.

We'll be at Tiki O. If you send me your email we'll let you know which room we're in at the Hanalei and maybe we can meet up for a drink or something.

OK, so not replies yet, but we did track down the ONLY tiki bar in the area. Harbor Hut Morro Bay is a restaurant located over the water with awesome views of Morro Rock. The tiki decor is a little Tommy-bahama'ish, but with no other tiki bars in 100 miles, this place was just fine. The food was excellent, the best fish I've ever had, ever. Fishermen dock their boats about 20 yards away and the fish you're eating was probably caught the same day.

I hope this thread finds a few other tiki-philes in the Central Coast area; we need to get together to promote the tiki culture and help support our ONLY tiki bar. Chris "Smoking Tiki".

My dad lives in Morro Bay. He always makes fun of the advertisements that declare "view of Morro Rock."

Aloha ST....I think you are the sole survivor there. There used to be a carver that posted as Octane but I haven't seen a post from him in years. Stuff-O-Rama used to share a space with Insomniac Video in San Luis Obispo, but I think she is just online only. You might contact her to see if she is still local for a get together.

I meant to post the obituary of the owner a couple years back but never got to it. He also owned a place called the Outrigger that i can find no info about.
Trader Nicks was next to the Kon Tiki in Pismo where Steamers is now. DustyCajun is probably the closest TC member to you (Santa Barbara). There are a half dozen TCers in Ventura County. We have family in your area and get up that way a few times a year. We will try to drop you a line when we are in your area.
Harbor Hut looks pretty cool but If I remember right the drinks sucked.

We consider ourselves central coast up here by Monterey Bay. There are several of us Tiki types around. We've not networked much, but that doesn't mean a visitor couldn't give us a reason for getting together! There are a couple of the best Tiki restaurant/bars outside L.A. here - http://www.hulastiki.com/
They both have back rooms that are spot on old style Tiki. Incredible detail.

@Bongofury - Thanks for the information. You are right, there appears to be a tiki void and we are possibly the only ones in the area. Fortunately, the 200+ wineries in the area more than make up for the lack of tiki bars, so we're not feeling so bad. The mai tai at Harbor Hut was not excellent, but I didn't think it was too terrible. Too much fruit juice, not enough booze. Thought the food was great, the fish and chips and the escargot appetizer were both delicious.

Tiki magazine did an article on Kalyra Winery in Santa Barbara having a tiki tasting room. Have you checked that out? I'll drop you a line if we are in the area. We've never tried tiki wine tasting... :)

@Okolehao-That place looks great. We just got free tickets to Monterey aquarium so we have an excuse to come up there soon. I'll drop you a line when we know when we're coming up your way, we'd love to check out Hula's and meet some cool tiki locals. Do you know if they will allow a 1 year old in the bar and/or restaurant? Don the Beachcomber never had a problem with that and we'd bring her all the time. She loves looking at tiki decor.

Yes, all ages are welcome. My favorites are the Hawaiian pulled pork, wasabi coleslaw, and taro fries with spicy mayo dip. Throw in the Mai Tai and I'm in Tiki heaven.
