A Tropical Retreat
Six months ago Doug Michael bought a house that suits him perfectly. He's a 50s- and 60s-aficionado, so the look of the home was irresistible. Now it's time for Doug to face the important task of landscaping the backyard. Most importantly, he wants to give it an overall Tiki style. He'd like to remove the concrete as well as the pergola and add plant materials to soften the space. He wants to upgrade the look of the pool and the fence behind it as well as add a Tiki hut to make it a yard ideal for entertaining. With a budget of $20,000, Doug wishes to turn his backyard into a tropical retreat.

Very cool show! I was interested to see that the guy who was chosen to design the makeover was the only one who had incorporated a single Tiki in his proposal. The fella that had the work done got a great deal for his $20,000. Where can I find a Television Network who will pay an architect to come work for me for free!?!

Aside from the serious lack of tikis, my only gripe was that he needed a bigger water feature to drown out the ungodly freeway noise. It was bad enough on the tv, I can't imagine what it was like in real life.
