I'm relatively new here and just wanted to share some of my Tikis.

Some of my first small Tikis:

A bigger one I made in two days for the wifes outdoor "Jungle Room":

He turned out a little darker than I care for. The Teak Oil wasn't making the wood dark enough for my taste so I hit him with antiquing oil (I had it laying around the shop) them rubbed him down with the teak oil. Oh well, still learning.

I got my hands on some palm logs. I'll post up the progress soon.

They look good! Especially that Moai. What kind of wood?

B

Cool stuff, the moai looks like oak...

Thanks so much guys! After lurking about looking at the quality of all of your work... Well, for you guys to positively comment on it sure feels good. Thanks!!!

The Moai is maple stained with antiquing oil. My father-in-law supplies me with all kinds of swell scrap wood. I'm not sure, but I think he may be building an Ark.

The one I made for the wife is made of this block of wood she bought about 20 years ago for one of her college art classes. I'm not really sure what it is. I'm thinking some sort of pine or maybe even basswood. It's kinda hard and light yet soft enough to dull my blades in a hurry. :D

Anyway, I hooked up with a fella locally that has began to supply me with some palm logs. I've got a nice sized one in the shop right now. I cleaned it up and I'm ready to start carving on it. I'm having a blast.

Nice Job, Keep up the good work.

S

Well done. Nice layout and execution.

Sure thing, they are mostly test models... See, my wife is a potter and there is always clay laying about and the kiln is always hot. So, I began playing with the clay to make small Tikis.

Also, here's todays progress pics:

Well since you are sharing, I will take that Moai,
