R.I.P. Elliot Smith

One of the most talented and underrated singer/songwriters of the last 10 years has left us. I'm gutted, that's about all I can say.

Christ, I'm shocked. Coming from the Portland music scene, I briefly knew him. My roommate was in Heatmiser w/him. I even have some drum tracks recorded on my drum machine. Still. Talented doesn't come close to describing what Elliot had. He had a gift, that's for sure. They say it's an apparent suicide. Sad. Sad. Sad.

Not just a suicide, aparently he stabbed himself in the chest!

Yeah, any old Morrisey wannabe can OD or shoot himself, but it takes nards of iron to take the time to stab yourself to death.

He was pretty cool, I wonder where he got that idea.

I'm starting to think that gifted artists from the Northwest (raincountry) who make careers out of being depressed and moody shouldn't move to sunny California. I think it takes the air out of their tires.
