my earliest memory of what i always thought was "tiki", was at the "tepee lounge" in amsterdam, ny.

now, with all the classifications and sub-classes of various pop cultures, i see i am in error. my father is an amsterdam native, and once a year we would venture back to visit my grandmother. my aunt (deceased) was a waitress at the tepee, and my father confirms that they did in fact serve tiki style drinks, noting he most definitely ordered zombies & mai tais off the menu. i was 10 years old the last time we went in the very early '80's, and i distinctly remember the decor as something very tribal, if not tropical. it was set in an old stone quarry, and had the most amazing waterfall/patio i've ever seen (until my recent visit to the mai kai). so i'm assuming this would classify as proper native american pop?

very little is to be found about it now, other than it is for sale, vacant, and deteriorating. here are what few pictures i could find:

Very cool story, sounds like the place was a definite crossover between Mod Prim and Tiki. Great archeological photos...in a stone quarry, what a cool site for an A-frame hut.

That looks like it once was a great sign! I like the one on the hillside though, too. Reminds me of "The Tikis" sign..
