As lovers of all things containing rum, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Mamajuana. Has anyone tried it?
Carefully chosen rum, together with honey and white wine are the base of this fabulous liqueur. This mix was then laid on a secret combination of the endemic Mamajuana herbs, roots, leaves and spices. Story goes that it was the Taino Indians, in their search for active substances mother nature had to offer us, who first experimented with this fabulous Mamajuana recipe already 500 years ago. Rumor converted it in a much appreciated liquor of great flavor. Even before introduction on the American market last year, it was reviewed as 'highly recommended' and one of the best flavored rums around by the Beverage Testing Institute. Electric scarlet color. Herbal bark, honey, menthol, and pink peppercorn aromas follow through on a supple entry to a fruity-yet-dry medium body with allspice, wintergreen, camphor, ginger, and clove notes in fine balance. Finishes with a mildly bitter and astringent fade with sweet mint tea, cherry blossom, and herb notes lingering. An interesting concoction sure to inspire similarly interesting cocktails." * |

Wow, never heard of Mamajuana, either. Google and Wikipedia it. There's a number of brands available, and not very expensive, either. |

That's what the Dominican community here in Miami considers it. I have no empirical data to either confirm or deny this claim. |
