Is this an Orchids of Hawaii mug?

Pages: 1 11 replies

I don't have many mugs, and the ones I do have I know who manufactured them.....except for this guy.

As you can see from the photo, it simply says "Japan" on the bottom. Nowhere on the mug does it say Orchids of Hawaii. It's not a Dynasty Wholesale mug either, I have one of those so it can't be that.

I picked him up from a flea market a year or two ago.

The shape and details do resemble a Libbey slightly. The glaze is different however. It's more of a faded green.

That's an Orchids of Hawaii R-5: http://www.ooga-mooga.com/cgi-bin/all/mug.cgi?mode=view&mug_id=224

Some of Orchids mugs are marked, some only say "Japan." The Libbey mugs, although similar in design, don't have the relief of the Orchids mugs, plus they're much heavier.

Ok that's what I was guessing, but I was rather confused as it was just marked with "Japan" on the bottom. Thanks for the reassurance!

More info, and a comparison between the jagged-tooth mugs:

Wow, really cool topic! Thanks for sharing!

Is this really a Orchids mug or is the mark a fake? Thanks

I would say it's real. I can't see why anyone would fake an Orchids of Hawaii marking.

 !
