Les Baxter's The Raven

Just a quick heads-up in case anybody missed it:

Kritzerland has released the surviving parts of Les Baxter's score to "The Raven", combined with his score to "An Evening Of Edgar Allan Poe".

Kritzerland has sold out, but copies are still available from Screen Archives:

I recently picked this up and it's actually quite good. The Raven soundtrack uses lots of dissonant chords mixed with electronics for an unusual but scary mix! Lots of humorus parts as well since this was background music for a Roger Corman horror/comedy film. Very interesting indeed!

The Edgar Allan Poe stuff is REALLY scary. I listened to it while rummaging through my records and was sure glad the lights didn't go out in the basement. It would have freaked me out!

Damn, I love Les Baxter!!

Cheers and Mahalo,
Jeff

I'm sure I read somewhere that there was one horror soundtrack of his in particular that Les Baxter used to enjoy making his guests listen to in the dark. I forget which one -- I'll have to try and look for that reference again this evening.

That would be Cry of the Banshee!

I think it's still available on CD too! :)

Cheers and Mahalo,
Jeff
