Assistance identifying/originating/authenticating a tiki

Pages: 1 6 replies

Hello All,

I saw this today at a show, and left it behind due to the price and having too many questions as to its origin/authenticity. Have any of you ever seen a tiki like this before? Any help as to the design county of origin and such would be greatly appreciated. I didn't want to end up with an expensive item that came from Cost Plus or Ross.

Nice! Looks to me like it may be from Papua New Guinea. I have a few similar pieces - figures and masks.

Killer, thank you tikitabby. Would $60 for it be unreasonable?

Nope - not unreasonable at all in my opinion although I'm in no way an expert. There's a forum here on TC devoted entirely to PNG pieces - check out the photos there if you're curious.

Killer! Thank you so very much! Now I just have to hope it's there next weekend...

Yes, and where was it exactly? Heh heh....

Ha ha! That will most certainly be divulged after I get my hands on it, if I get my hands on it... Fortunately, the place where I saw it isn't open again till next Saturday.
