Mark your calendars for the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, 27May12. Luau at Levitt will be a celebration of Polynesian Pop culture in Bethlehem PA, only 75 minutes away from NYC and Philly. Join us at ArtsQuest's Steel Stacks campus in South Bethlehem, in the shadow of the iconic Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces that produced much of the steel that built America. We'll have a pig roast, Polynesian food and drink, hula dancers, Hawaiian shirt and hula hoop contests, and a display of retro fashion by Whirling Turban. And music! The main event will be a performance by Mr. Ho's Orchestrotica at 7pm, followed by The Great White Caps at 9pm. Here are links to the event pages on Facebook and Mr. Ho's Orchestrotica's web page: https://www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tnmn#!/events/190927287653053/ This event is jointly sponsored by ArtsQuest, Compass Energy and A. Panda's Tiki Lounge. Don't miss it! |

Thanks Andy! A a follow on, we should mention the show is FREE and a rare chance to hear the Orchestrotica's special 22-pc formation playing the lost music of Juan Garcia Equivel, the king of space age pop. "deliciously demented and entertaining in equal parts."--Wall Street Journal Mr. Ho |

If you wanna know more about the other band for the evening, GREAT WHITE CAPS! you can go to their website and listen to their entire debut album for free, no limit on streams! Great White Caps play "beach rock" - combining the sounds of surf guitar, the energy of garage rock, and the feel of a beautiful shoreline complete with babes, boards, and beers! |

Thanks Sylvester, I've been remiss in not mentioning Bethlehem's own Great White Caps! I just saw them play at the ArtsQuest Center's Musikfest Café this month, opening for The Ventures. Great White Caps! rocked the house! We are truly blessed to have both of these talented groups taking the stage at Luau At Levitt! |

I am so totally psyched for this event! So much so that I'll be leaving New England early on this Sunday to make it back to PA in time for it - can't wait to figure out what muu muu to wear. Looking forward to meeting more PA area ohana and going to see if I can get a bunch of Retro Roadmap Readers to attend as well! |

The Levitt Pavillion at SteelStacks is an amazing venue that must be seen to be believed! Here is a link to their website and a picture to try and do it some justice: Also, the Air Products Town Square is a cool outdoor venue right across Front Street from the Levitt Pavillion and directly in front of the ArtsQuest Center. Check it out here: The flaming sculpture in the middle of the town square is an actual natural-gas fired piece of steel called The Bridge. This piece was commissioned by ArtsQuest, using an NAE grant, to pay homage to Bethlehem Steel's industrial past. It's quite the sight when it lights up at night! The gas used in The Bridge and all of the SteelStacks campus is provided by Compass Energy, the co-sponsor of Luau at Levitt and the company that keeps me gainfully employed. Mahalo! |

And, lest I forget, we will also be prominently featuring a fashion display by Whirling Turban, purveyors of couture quality mid-century vinatage styles. Ms. Katherine Robinson cut her chops in Manhattan’s fashion industry and Hollywood’s entertainment industry. She now operates her "Dream Workshop" in Bali, where she can make the services she formerly provided to Hollywood available, affordably, to other vintage clothing enthusiasts like herself. Stop by to see a live model (or two) wearing their Whirling Turban dresses at the Luau, and check out the Whirling Turban website here:

Same here modbetty, I'll have to decide on the appropriate Hawaiian shirt for this occasion. Too bad I can't win the contest, but we're working on some pretty cool prizes for the winners! |
