It appeared cracked and dried and was missing a pinky finger on one hand. I have tenderly oiled the statue every year to this beautiful patina. There is an interesting leaf-shaped dugout and slot that were perhaps intended as an ashtray and matchbook holder. I've had it on my bedroom dresser for years and found a unique use for it by putting my key ring in the dugout and drivers license in slot.
