Good news indeed. I hope it will have a classic cocktail menu. We really need a proper Tiki bar here in Michigan again.

Here is a link to a local article about the bar with a shoutout to Bamboo Ben.

every shrunken head bar needs shrunken head swag lamps !!

Hey Ben, when does the build begin? We are long overdue for a good Tiki bar up here.

I'm a little worried. Shrunken Head seems to have disappeared from Facebook, Twitter, the web... What's going on?!?!?

Aloha Grand Rapids Tiki Freaks,

It's on hold for a bit. The owner is concentrating on his other bars Hop Cat for now. Maybe next year.

Heart. Broken.

That's ok. The Hukilau Lounge is closer and cheaper. I've been waiting for a good bar around here for so long another year won't matter much.

This is why it got put on hold....

But maybe after all the stress of opening all these bars he'll need a place to Escape again

Try Stella's in G.R. its owned by the same owner of Hop Cat. The burgers are to die for. Cool little dive!

Stella's is fine, but it ain't a tiki bar!

I get the feeling we may not see a decent tiki bar around here for long time. But I hope I'm wrong.

If anyone is in the area, on September 15, I will be giving a "Brief History of Modern Tiki Culture" at San Chez restaurant. It's part of an evening of Pecha Kucha presentations. More info at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pechakucha-gr-vol-10-tickets-18428449990

San Chez has great food, great mojitos, and wonderful sangria!

Looks like we may have to wait even longer for a tiki bar in GR. They are converting an old railroad warehouse into another Hop Cat location here in Kalamazoo.
