They are also in the Oceanic Arts catalog. Prices seem to be about the same everywhere (about $180). -Z |

Thanks. That Polynesian head torch is cool. I guess I was hoping to find some I could just stick in the ground and pour in the fuel, not to run a gas line since the landscaping is mostly done.....but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Let's see.....2 torches, gas line, digging, permit.......ouch! |

unless you get some vintage ones that are pour-in, (they do exist, but take gigantic wicks and make a huge-ass flame) the best you are gonna do is this: http://store.yahoo.com/weaubuchon/tiktorset2to.html you'd think someone would come up with a nice old-skool style tiki torch to manufacture again- something that can somehow take the "inner fuel can" method that is so convenient the vintage pour-ins I've seen don't have a can inside- just an opening and a twist-on cap.. kinda scary if it starts to rust or leak and you light that sucker.. probably how the inner-cans came to be. |

Maybe I'm mistaken but I thought there were a couple of oil torch choices on the first link SCD gave. http://v1.buytikitorches.com/kona_tiki_torch.php3 http://v1.buytikitorches.com/torch_classic.php3 [ Edited by: DawnTiki on 2004-01-28 22:17 ] |

I'd been planning on making one of these for a while now after seeing those prices. I got the idea after seeing a metal funnel in an automive store upside down... thats the top of the torch. Cut the spout off of the metal funnel, and lay it over a typical torch. Use some JB Weld or Gurilla Glue to secure. Or if you want a metal pole, use some metal plumbing pipe instead of the bamboo! You can spray paint the funnel with some engine block spray paint too. Yeah, sounds very low budget, so I don't know how it would look. So, when are we starting on that Palapa? |

Thanks again everyone. I think the site that Feelin Zombiefied posted is the one.....and in Hawaii. Looks like you can get a big-ass flame out of the gas ones, but if the price is right I may go with the TK-1`-K, between the Rincon Room and the outdoor palapa (anytime Tony!) money and time are tight. No prices. I emailed them and will let everyone know how much in case interest is there. Gecko's post for the enchanted tiki backyards show that style also. I got black metal screw-off top ones (pour in your oil) at Home Depot in Toronto about 2 or 3 years ago for 10 bucks each. Might be worth looking if they bring them back. I left them in the backyard at my old apartment... couldn't exactly use them in the new condo~! |

A couple years ago I purchased 4 of these unpolished copper torches here: They work pretty well with flames up to about 4" long, but of course nothing like a 6"x12" flame from a big gas torch (ala Mai-Kai). At the time I found the big ones at Beachside Lighting, however they were quite expensive so I went with these. |

Okay check this out! http://www.nightscaping.com/tikiliter_cu.htm nightscaping makes a great product, I spec it out often and they stand behind their products, plus they are american made and they treat their workers well, can't say enough good things about this company. realize this is just a component out a larger system and its not a cheap way to go but then again its top of the line outdoor lighting. |

Here's an ITD thread. Starting on page five there are lots of photos of 'finished' Rincon Room. http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=19716&forum=17&start=60 If these don't make you weep, you have no right to be posting on TC. |

This thread goes waaaay back......so here is a bit of an update. The original Rincon Room pix are mostly history. For that modern yard, I did not think about running a gas line until after the patio was installed so we went with a couple of these....only needs low-voltage wiring and can be easily moved. http://www.nightscaping.com/tikiliter_cu.htm You can see they are the old school shape, liquid fuel with side fill, but the bottom has a low voltage path light in it. They work quite well, though don't hold as much fuel as the originals. They are copper and I painted them a flat black. The Bannanabobs post shows them at our more recent home, and are now located on the other side of the house at the "Drifters Reef" lounge area. I bought them through a landscaping wholesaler. Also not cheap. They use aan automotive tail light type bulb and after 3 years of being on 8 hours every night, have yet to be replaced. The beachside lighting torches are worth it as long as you are not planning to move and you know exactly where you want them. You get a huge flame and the wind will have a hard time blowing them out. With all 8 of them running it uses about 150,000 BTUs ( a larger heater runs about 125,000 BTUs) so not really costly to light up occaisionally. That side yard is quite a jungle now and the house has more color so I have promised many folks a photo update and at some point I will make a new post for that.....sometime soon I hope. Aloha |
