Tahitian Lanai/Papeete Bar, Honolulu, HI (restaurant)

A free Mai Tai at the Tahitian Lanai!

Sounds Good!

DC

I saw this table topper card on ebay a while ago that for the Papeete Bar that also advertised another bar called the Tahitian Hut.

It was located at the front of the tower section of the hotel.

This is the first time I can remember hearing about this bar. Does anybody else have any other documentation or memories of the Tahitian Hut?

Here is another image of the Tahitian Lanai sign I found on flickr while looking for more info on that Tahitian Hut bar at the Waikikian.

Aloha,

OOH, nice and clear DC...

Cool DC, thank you for sharing that!

A new luncheon menu spotted on a website from the Kapiolani Community College Library that has a menu collection.

A vintage shirt with a Tahitian Lanai image.

A photo from Playboy of a young lady having lunch on the lanai by the pool.

(those chairs just crack me up!)

A tourist photo inside one of the dinning huts.

A photo from the last night at the Tahitian Lanai.

It goes with this article.

And finally, I saw this tape on ebay from The Gang at the Tahitian Lanai.

The description: This is a special cassette recording by "The Gang" that gathered at the Tahitian Lanai in the evenings and on weekends to sing and sometimes dance a hula, with Rudy Ochoco at the piano. The introduction is by Don Ho, and the proceeds went to the Variety Club of Hawaii.

Spotted this breakfast menu from the Tahitian Lanai on ebay.

Some nice graphics, and a great spread!

I'll have the Eggs Benedict, a pot of coffee & a large glass of pineapple juice & still get change back from $2.00!

After the closure of the Tahitian, Rudy & the Gang would play and sing at La Mariana Sail Club.
In 2000, a group of friends and I had the pleasure of attending on 2 different nights.
Pure old-style magic!

Found this today

Another song tribute to the Tahitian Lanai.

Tells a great story.

An ad from a Hawaii brochure for the Tahitian Lanai.

Also mentions the Tahitian Hut which was located in the Tower section of the hotel.

Nice. I didn't see the photo of me with my son Diego at one the dining huts here, so here it is:

…and WHO's got this brochure, or even better, the PRINT, please?:

I would give my left arm for a copy...

This is a great thread! I've had a little mug from there (that I found in an antique store in Dallas), and always wondered what the Tahitian Lanai was. Looks like it was lovely. Love that giant totem sticking out of the roof.

Another view of one of the dining huts from an old brochure I picked up at an estate sale.

Still can't read the dang sign!

Another undated photo of the dining room from a Honolulu Star-Advertiser food blog.

Those Edward Brownlee panels are just the best! I am so glad I got to photograph them and put them in Tiki Modern.

Newspaper clippings from the Tahitian Lanai opening in 1956.
