I've been working on a Pinterest site about my dream tiki-themed, basketball-centric sports bar. I call it "Luau Cindor," a pun on the birth name of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Lew Alcindor. It combines pins of tiki bars, related tiki culture ephemera, and exotica & surf music with pins of legendary basketball players, arenas, and such. Also included are pins on travel across the Pacific, Australia, Hawaii, the Far East, India, Africa, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central & South America, and the US. Basically, all of the places that inspired exotica music. There are quite a few pins featuring vintage airline posters, surfing, swimsuits, reggae, and others things I hope compliment the tiki pins. I hope you check it out, and tell me what y'all thik. https://www.pinterest.com/sosbeedog92/luau-cindor-tiki-culture-basketball-and-sundry-exo/ |

Is there a bar anywhere near by, where we can get a drink? Seriously if I may make a comment, we like to deal in the physical world As for a sports bar, well that is the antithesis of a Tiki Bar and should never been combined So get to building the real thing. That's gonna take a lot of planning, And money. The latter I'm a little short on right now. :( Just for background, the whole idea originated from a joke that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was going to open up a Hawaiian themed restaurant. (Hence the name Luau Cindor). It became a Hawaiian BBQ, and finally a tiki bar as the joke evolved, since there weren't really that many Hawaiian BBQ places around that I know of. (That and Kareem is Muslim, so that makes the whole BBQ thing kind of awkward). The idea to actually try to open an actual Luau Cindor up just evolved over time. I still wanted to use the name, and to keep the connection with basketball somehow. I figured "tiki-themed" sports bar" was an easier way to explain it. |

Great Idea. Looks like at least one current NBA player would support this: PHOTOS: Thunder center Steven Adams adds Polynesian tattoo to his right forearm |

After Pinning 2001 pics, I decided to start up two new pages: Luau Cindor's Mondo Tiki & Sundry Exotica https://www.pinterest.com/sosbeedog92/luau-cindors-mondo-tiki-sundry-exotica/ Luau Cindor's Basketball Emporium https://www.pinterest.com/sosbeedog92/luau-cindors-basketball-emporium/ It's basically splitting off the basketball and tiki aspects of the Luau Cindor dream sports bar concept. Hope you check both of them out and follow them. |
