Name:Conley's Motel and Hawaiian Lounge
Type:bar
Street:1550 William Penn Highway (US RT 22)
City:Pittsburgh (Monroeville)
State:PA
Zip:15235
country:USA
Phone:

Description:
One of a local chain of motels and inns, some had large bars with floor shows. This one with a Polynesian revue in the Hawaiian Lounge, which continued at least into the 80s.
Location is now a Home Depot.

Recently acquired a couple of postcards that had info which prompted me to start this entry.
From 1965, the sign mentions the "Hawaiian Lounge"

although the back just says "bar and large banquet room"

this replaced an earlier Conley's Inn on the site which had a "Turnway Inn" bar, it's just off the PA Turnpike, Pittsburgh Exit.

It seems the production grew over time and lasted at least into the 80s.
Which cannibalizing acts from defunct Polynesian floor shows.

An ad from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette from June 19, 1980:

"Polynesian Affair"
a John Malo Production
featuring "Tane"
with an all star cast from Hawaii
Pittsburgh's best Hawaiian Extravaganza
formerly booked at the Mauna Loa in Monroeville
for ? smashing years

Coming July 4th
"Hawaiian Odessy"
featuring song and dances from
India Japan China Arabia Europe Latin America Katmandu
Hawaii and Tahiti
Our newly designed ? Showroom the largest in Pittsburgh
Enlarged 300 seating

(the showroom at the Mai Kai seats 250)

Yes, at one point there were two competing Polynesian shows in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh!

Here is a link to what I saw of the motel way back when. The place was pretty much intact when I stayed there. I just wish I had the forethought to take some pictures but that was over twenty years ago and my interest was on other things.

Uncle Trav, was this the one you were at? I thought you were at the one in Irwin, PA, that location's here:

They're about 30 minutes apart, one on route 22, one on route 30. Both just off the turnpike heading towards Pittsburgh.

Hi Pauly. It was so long ago I can't remember. If the one in Irwin had the dome then it was that location. I do remember unpacking my bags weeks later and still had the room key after my stay :D
