Hey guys... just a reminder Mr. Ho's Orchestrotica is here in SoCal all the way from Boston! This is the final weekend of their first California tour. Friday night (2/19/16) at the Bali Hai in SD and Sat at Alvas in the South Bay.

If you like live music and exotica don't miss these guys!

Got my tickets to Saturday night's show in LA (ok, San Pedro). I'm happy the band could make it out here to California.

Thanks for the shout out. Having a great time here in california and just landed at LAX. Headed to SD for round three at the Bali Hai.

Now if only we can find time for a Ray's Mistake at TikiTi ....perhaps we can squeeze in some pre-gaming...two of the band mates just had their first zombies ever at Smugglers Cove and it hit hard at 1230am :)

Mr. Ho

That was an outstanding show here at Alva's* - great musicianship coupled with interesting and insightful information about the songs and musical styles themselves. Moai Thief has long been a favorite of mine but to hear how the story is told within the song across different instrumental pieces really brought out an extra level of enjoyment. And that was just one example.

Thank you so much to Brian...errr...Mr. Ho and to the rest of the band for traveling out here to California. Hope to see it again sometime!

  • I'd never been to Alva's before and it was a great space to hear music being performed.

if it's not a little complicated, it's probably not worth it.

How do you describe an evening where your mind is being blown again and again and again?

Listening to Mr. Ho's Orchestrotica on CD is one thing... actually seeing them live is an entirely different experience!

LOVED all the different descriptions and explanations of what went into the creation of each piece. The history, background and influences for the music was absolutely incredible!

They did things with tambourines that I didn't know were physically possible!

The highlight of the evening was four musicians playing the same set of vibes with eight bows, while another musician played a crazy instrument that I didn't even know existed until that very night. The piece was based on a gregorian chant... with the different instruments doing the different vocal parts (I think I got the details correct)!

So glad we were able to catch the show! The experience reminded me of a live show with Loreena Mckennitt or Dead Can Dance, where the history, music, and musicianship created magic before our very ears!

Here's some photos from my crummy phone:

Bowing!

Mr. Ho

and the Orchestrotica

I attended their Bali Hai show, and like others, was mesmerized by the musicianship, delicious melodys and intoxicating rhythms. I to loved the descriptions of the songs and how they originated. The story of the specialized instrument that was made to sound like men marching . I'll always think of that now when I listen to that track. Such great night!! I was looking forward to this show for months. I look forward to the return of Mr. Ho to the west coast again in the future! Cheers!

MH

Thank you for all the kind words and the pictures too! I am glad the music connected with so many of the California folks out there and it was great to meet you all. I might re-share some of your pics and forward your comments to the band as well. Working on coming back to the west coast!
