I am preparing a talk for this weekend's Mid Century Modern tours in Sarasota and the Bahi Hut will be part of the tours. I'm trying to figure out it's place in the extant tiki bars. Some say it's the 4th oldest, others say 5th or 6th. It was built in 1954. What is the accepted order of the other extant tiki bars? |

Good question. Not sure if I can answer it yet, but here are some resources where we might start looking. http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=51884&forum=1&vpost=777914 In this post on the On This Day in Tiki History thread, MadDogMike lists all of his compiled dates chronologically. There are some bars there, but the list is probably incomplete. https://news.critiki.com/2016/01/25/the-oldest-tiki-bar-in-the-world/ This Critiki News article mentions some dates for extant bars (not Bahi Hut though). I know all Critiki entries list known opening dates but I don’t know if there’s an easy way to search that information. Maybe Humu could help figure that out. [ Edited by: Hamo 2017-11-07 21:10 ] |

Thanks for the plug Hamo but my calendar is sadly incomplete. It only includes events that I could find exact year and date. My research lead me to the opening YEAR of many bars but no DATE so they aren't included. This What is the oldest Tiki bar still in existance thread may be of some help. |
