Thanks to Robert’s mention on his thread, I’ve just discovered MugCrate, a tiki mug subscription box from the good folks at Horror in Clay.

https://mugcrate.cratejoy.com/

Anybody here currently subscribe, or have received a box in the past? If so, what are your thoughts? It seems like it could be an interesting gift for someone just getting into tiki, but I wonder if more seasoned tikiphiles find it worthwhile.

I'd be interested in feedback too. Looks interesting, though I'd be more interested in the mug and associated decor than things like bitters or bar recipes.

What a neat idea. As someone who lives in a practically tiki-less region, I'm now thinking about signing up just to make up for the absolute dearth of finds in the wild.

I'm a subscriber

When I first subbed It thought that it would be for mugs made BY the Horror In Clay folks. Guess I didn't read it thoroughly enough.
That said, you don't really get anything hard to find in the box, but I don't feel like I'm overpaying or anything. It's a fun little thing to open when you get it.

Came across this MugCrate unboxing video:

Hey Bam Bam, thanks for that, I think. I was wondering what this Crate Mug was all about.

However, that was very painful to watch. :)
I'd like to see them do that with one too many in them!
My favorite line....... "Oh, Mmuunnnkk Tiki....I've heard of them".

All in fun. All in fun.

That's an understatement. I'm scared to watch their other videos now.

Do with this as you please, but one of the mugs I did receive had a pretty bad blemish to it. I took a picture and sent it to them via email and I believe I even posted it on here. But alas, no mention of replacing it or even a response apologizing, etc. For the most part though, the stuff was fun to open.

Thanks for everyone’s feedback. I never thought to look for unboxing videos. Here are a few more.

That same couple unboxed the December 2017 MugCrate. This video is slightly less excruciating: https://youtu.be/DKnPd2FcsuM

Then there are a couple of videos from Mai Tai TV. There are some annoying elements (to me) here, too, so to get to the unboxing, jump to the following time stamps.

Anyway, these boxes look pretty neat, so I think I’ll do some heavy hint dropping for my birthday or something and see what happens.

Also if you search #Mugcrate on Instagram you can find pictures of the box contents

Just finished Episode 135 of Inside the Desert Oasis Room, where Ken mentioned that Issue 4 of Exotica Moderne would be included in MugCrate, which reminded me of this thread. Then i discovered our friends have done another unboxing video!

Anybody else a subscriber? I haven't tried it yet, and nobody's gifted me with one, either.

I've been a subscriber for about two years, I think it's a lot of fun!
