Preserving and repairing palm wood

What’s the best way to preserve carved palm wood kept outside , and fixing it if it’s cracked?

Fill the cracks with wood filler and slather the whole thing with either spar varnish or exterior polyurethane.

Is that Queen palm?
That's what Queen palm does usually.
I avoid it.
Palm is tuff to put outside.
All wood does better inside.
