Great find. Thanks. Even in the late 80's, he contended that he inventing the Mai Tai.

He "accidently" spilled that drink on Marlene Dietrich, so she had to take her dress off. Oh suuuuuure, it was an accident!

Never heard of Iwilei. Apparently it was the red light district. I used Google Translator and it simply means "yard." Haha

more likely, they were easily rounded up passed out in nearby Aala Park, which sits between the Iwilei district (harbor / cannery centric) and Chinatown / downtown Honolulu. the hookers were ensconced downtown where the cops could keep it under quasi-control, but of course anything and everything could of happened.

I love his discussion of the late 20s and 30s and what he was doing and the bar. Really dances around the truth. An astute reader will put the pieces together.
