Island bound!

Hey guys! Caz and I are about to spend a week on the islands - any suggestions?
Our Itinerary:

Day 1 Honolulu, United States
Depart: 7:00 pm

Day 2 Maui, United States
Arrive: 8:00 am

Day 3 Maui, United States
Depart: 6:00 pm

Day 4 Hilo, United States
Arrive: 8:00 am
Depart: 6:00 pm

Day 5 Kona, United States
Arrive: 7:00 am
Depart: 5:30 pm

Day 6 Kauai, United States
Arrive: 8:00 am

Day 7 Kauai, United States
Depart: 2:00 pm

Cruising past Na Pali Coast, Kauai, Hawaii

Day 8 Honolulu, United States
Arrive: 7:00 am

If you get a car while on Kauai, there’s Tiki Iniki, Tahiti Nui, and Havaiki, all on the north shore. Plus, you’ll drive past the remains of Coco Palms in Wailua. Also in Wailua, B Ben’s new place Mamahunes opens sometime in May...

Whereabouts on Maui will you be?

Aloha from the Big Island!

On my side of the island (Kona), be sure to visit Pu'uhonua O Honaunau, commonly called "Place of Refuge." If you've seen pictures of big tikis looking out on the ocean, this is where they were taken. And if you're a snorkeler, right next door is "Two Step" where you take...two steps...off the lava shelf into the bay.

In Kona Town, Don the Beachcomber's Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Kona Resort has nice decor and top-notch tiki drinks. A short walk from there is Kona Oceanfront Gallery, where a lot of Brad "Tiki Shark" Parker's art is displayed.

Non tiki-wise, on this side of the island there's a lot of history, great snorkeling, deep sea fishing, Kona coffee plantations, and beautiful beaches on the Kohala Coast (north of Kona Town).

If you have specific questions, send me a PM. I'd invite you to go outrigger paddling, but you won't be on shore in time. :wink:

Get a cab or Uber to La Mariana Sailing Club while on Oahu in Honolulu. If you have time, try to get to The Myna Bird bar in Waikiki. If you had more time on Oahu, I’d say get to the East side of the island to the Polynesian Cultural center, too.

In Honolulu, also recommend Duke’s restaurant and/or the Hula Grill (literally upstairs). Dukes had terrific food and both had great drinks!

I do not recommend Tikis, a gay bar. :P Very crowded, more club scene, and not that much tiki anout it.

If you two make it to Kihei here on Maui, stop by our little shop here at Kalama Village.. Lmk when your coming and maybe I can swing a mai tai with ya at the lounge if I'm not working!!

I'll be on Kauai June 22-30, with my two daughters. I planned to hit Tiki Iniki, which happens to be a short 0.9 mile walk from where we’re staying for part of the trip. Thanks, for the other suggestions, 4WDtiki! I see Mamahunes is now open. :)

Just saw this. Lizzie Coconuts and I will be on the Big Island 7/11-16. Rum Balls, thanks for the tips. No specific plans, just checking things out. We're staying on the Kona side. Any place you'd recommend for outrigger paddling?

Just seeing your message on the 12th. Are you looking for a tourist "joy ride" on an outrigger? Or a "real" paddling session? For a joy ride (not that there's anything wrong with that) Kona Boys does those in front of the King Kam hotel in Kona town by the pier.

But if you want a true paddling experience, my canoe club - Kai 'Opua - takes guests along on a 1-hour recreational paddle (with pit stops) every Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 7:30 am in front of the King Kam hotel. Be there at 7 am. Must be able to swim, and you will need to sign a liability waiver. We provide paddles (first come, first serve). No cost, but donations to the club are happily accepted (we're officially a non-profit).

PM me for more details/contact info. etc. And if you do come down, ask for Paul. I will never live down "Rum Balls" with this group...

Is there still a store that has Clement Creole Shrubb over on your side?

Mahalo Rum Balls! Sorry, but once we arrived on the Big Island I checked Tiki Central once, and then forgot about it. We had a great time and drove the whole island except for the Saddle Road. Went to the Place of Refuge twice. I tried emailing Kai'Opua, but they never answered. I was able to go out with the Waikoloa Canoe Club on one of their Ohana paddles. I had such a great time I just put my rowing shell on CL and am looking at single Outrigger Canoes. No Canoe Clubs in my area of Florida, but who knows, maybe I'll start one! If you're ever in SE FLA PM me and we can get together. Lizzie Coconuts and I fell in love with the Big Island. It reminded us in a lot of ways of the Florida we grew up in. Mahalo and Aloha!

There is Clement agricole "VSOP" at Kadota Liquors in Hilo if you're interested. I like rhum agricole so I enjoy Clement as an evening sipper.

Did/do you frequent LLBC? It's sad what happened to the outdoor seating at LLBC. We used to love going to LLBC for special occasions, recommending it to visitors, and petting the 3 LLBC cats, even if the prices were a bit inflated and the drinks terrible. (stupid "bamboocha" thing in a bamboo cup that ruins what little flavor it ever had - their salad and burger was pretty good though) Unfortunately it seems their beach seating must have been in violation, since they removed most of it. If I go to LLBC for my birthday I want to bring my own damn beach chairs and eat my salad and burger just above the high tide line as nature intended!!!!
