I purposely consume as little news and social media as necessary, in order to maintain my personal peace and reduce sources of stress and anxiety. The past week has been no exception, but from what I understand, several local governments across the country--and especially the Bay Area--are closing bars and restaurants in an attempt to limit gatherings and the spread of COVID-19. This will have a real impact on the lives of the people who staff these businesses. Is there anyone out there with more information about specific ways we can support the staff of our favorite tiki bars which are being affected? Surely the TC ohana will rally to keep these places going throughout and after the closures. [ Edited by: Hamo 2020-03-23 16:02 ] |

Saw this letter from TV in Emeryville pop up on my Facebook feed - Looks like lots of places are staying open for take-out. I've also seen posts with GoFundMe campaigns set up for the employees of some restaurants & bars. Gift cards look to be the hot item, with the goal of keeping places afloat and at least kitchen staff employed for the coming weeks. |

Hey Bam Bam, if you remember any of those gofundme links, maybe you could post them here? That way those of us who don't use Facebook could also help out. |

Thanks for starting this thread Hamo. I've been thinking about this quite a bit this week and came to see if there was anything posted yet. I think it's not just tiki bars, but musicians and artists as well. With no shows/marketplaces for the near future, it may be good to have a general purpose thread where we can post links (as Bam Bam did) to help our friends in the tiki community. Bandcamp, direct links to artists, etc.. If anyone has links to share, please post them! Mahalo, kevin |

Great additions, Bam Bam, MauiRose, Hayward, and bamalamalu, and great point about others who are affected, Kevin. Let's all do what we can to support the entire tiki community. [ Edited by: Hamo 2020-03-23 15:54 ] |

Thanks for that Smuggler's Cove link, MauiRose. I've been looking to get some long straws for some time, so I'm happy to order them from the Cove and help support Martin and his staff. |

Jim Bacchi of The Tikiyaki Orchestra did some home recording and released a 4-track EP under the name Tikiyaki Minus Orchestra. You can find it on Bandcamp: https://thetikiyakiorchestra.bandcamp.com/album/sketches-with-guitar-and-bongos Needless to say, it's a winner. Check it out it as a way to throw some support that way. kevin |
