live album recordings featuring lounge acts of the past

Pages: 1 18 replies

Anyone aware of live album recordings featuring lounge acts, similar to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJkIw_Yj6sY (something that captures the ambiance of the rooms, the casinos, restaurants, clubs and the on stage banter.)Screenshot 2024-02-15 at 7.12.30 AM

Great article here btw: https://flashbak.com/30-forgotten-night-club-acts-from-the-glory-days-of-the-cocktail-lounge-404096/

Thanks in advance!

Oh - and I could not find a sample to listen to, but on the comedy front - "Bonnie Anderson Wrecks The Wreck Bar" recorded live at the Yankee Clipper in Ft. Lauderdale. She really interacts with the audience a lot, and winds up with her signature closing bit along the lines of: "Ladies and gentlemen, you've been a lovely audience, and if you come up and tell me where you work, maybe I'll come over and look at you sometime!"

These are great (however, Swanky says the Hawaii Kai one is a studio recording).

Here are a few more:

Sam Makia and His Hawaiian Islanders - Live Hawaiian Party image

George Paoa Trio - Live! image

Looks like Swanky still has downloads of these (plus a few other albums) over here:

Super! Thank you so much!! Digging these....excellent shares.

I have this 1968 live recording of Ed Kenney at the Royal Hawaiian, there is a little pre-song banter, ala Don Ho, to set the mood and perhaps to try and educate the mainlander tourists on things Hawaiian.

Nice! Thank you! Listening to this now!!

Got this album in the mail today! Super cool....would love to have seen it live when she was performing there. Thanks for the suggestion!Picture 17

Glad to hear it, SS - she has a second record on the same label, cover is black and white, though. Hard to find - I found one on Discogs and it shipped to the US from Germany of all places!

Enjoy "The Unpredictable" Bonnie Anderson!

Morning all! Have a question. I just discovered the "cruise ship souvenir record" genre.....if it isn't a genre, now it is. :) Of the few I've found on Discogs, it's got some tiki/exotica/loungey moments, here and there.

Have any of you come across a cruise souvenir record like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLqEFf67cd4 that includes a similar section of narration (:43-2:33) where the cruise itself is described?

I've never heard anything like this and wondered if it popped up across your vinyl adventures. Thanks in advance.

I did 3 episodes on "Tiki Restaurant Records". Check it out Quiet Village Podcast, episodes 104, 105, 106. Lots of tunes from quite a few ultra rare LPs https://digitiki.com/podcast.html

Oh that's awesome!! Headed over there now, thanks for the heads up!

I don't seem to be able to download episode 106

I loved the Episode 104: Restaurant and Live Records, DigiTiki. The Beachcomber Trio / Live at the Kahiki piece and the The Buffalo Story by Trader Vic was hilarious! Loved it....I'm in the middle of 105 now.....good stuff!!

Not tiki, but pure cornball. This was found in my in-law's LP collection. They met the guy back in the 60s.IMG_5967IMG_5968

Here's another one. Some banter. Recorded at Honey’s Tavern released in 1968. A little bit of everything, including 2 tracks from Zulu from Hawaii 5-0Waikiki

This is AWESOME! Got to catch a few previews from Youtube and some blogs. Have this one in the cart and ready to purchase. Thanks! Great stuff.

Listening to this now on https://territorialairwaves.com/index.php?page=30&id=365. Super fun! Had never heard of this territorialairwaves.com until now. Thanks for turning me in to this!
