Picked up this authentic porthole for 50 bucks from my friend the other day. It had five coats of paint on it so it took a while to get it down to the shiny brass. 18 inches wide with 1 inch thick glass. [ Edited by Maleko on 2024-06-11 04:39:06 ] |

I picked up another Port hole from my best surfing buddy. Somebody gave it to him as a wedding gift and he felt my tiki bar would be a better place for it. I couldn’t argue. |

Cool Texas nights have been fantastic for a month now. Stoked on it! Opinions wanted now that I have a centerpiece for the shadowbox - should I use Tapa or bac bac mat? [ Edited by Maleko on 2024-10-26 22:03:22 ] |

Maleko, your home tiki bar is so great! I don't post on here almost ever but just wanted to say, from one Texas Tikiphile to another, keep it up! I think we all love seeing the picture updates and get inspired from it all. Cheers! |

Tough call on the bac bac vs. tapa backing. Can you close off your A-frame or is it permanently open air? Even though the space is sheltered the humidity, heat and reflected UV would make me nervous subjecting vintage tapa to those conditions. Bac bac may be more durable and more easily replaced if it degrades in the future. You've done an amazing job. I don't think anyone here is intentionally ignoring you. Because of the long downtime people have just gotten out of the habit of visiting Tiki Central so aside from a handful of threads there's not much activity outside of spurts. I know I'm guilty of popping in once a week or so, glancing at the latest posts and then galavanting off without leaving a comment. But Tiki Central remains an invaluable resource and your build photos will serve as inspiration to those building their own spaces for years to come. |

Thanks, Monk. On second thought I think I’m gonna trim it with wood so that I can have a lip to help with keeping things from falling off. |
