Be careful. You live in Texas , and at one of your parties somebody gets too drunk, and....

shoot

I see you have jokes.

Picked up this authentic porthole for 50 bucks from my friend the other day. It had five coats of paint on it so it took a while to get it down to the shiny brass. 18 inches wide with 1 inch thick glass.IMG_0557

That looks great. You've earned a bowl of Blue Bell.

I guess you could say the bar is now open?IMG_0582

Nice to see the work updates on your Texas Tiki project. Looks GREAT!

Thank you. Slow going for a lot of reasons.

No worries THIS time. Just rain with a few 30 mph gusts.

I picked up another Port hole from my best surfing buddy. Somebody gave it to him as a wedding gift and he felt my tiki bar would be a better place for it. I couldn’t argue. IMG_0729

Cool Texas nights have been fantastic for a month now. Stoked on it!

Opinions wanted now that I have a centerpiece for the shadowbox - should I use Tapa or bac bac mat?IMG_1331

Tough crowd.

Guess I'll just wait till things are pretty much done before I waste anymore time here.

Maleko, your home tiki bar is so great! I don't post on here almost ever but just wanted to say, from one Texas Tikiphile to another, keep it up! I think we all love seeing the picture updates and get inspired from it all. Cheers!

Lookin' good. Have you put it to use yet?

Tough call on the bac bac vs. tapa backing. Can you close off your A-frame or is it permanently open air? Even though the space is sheltered the humidity, heat and reflected UV would make me nervous subjecting vintage tapa to those conditions. Bac bac may be more durable and more easily replaced if it degrades in the future.

You've done an amazing job. I don't think anyone here is intentionally ignoring you. Because of the long downtime people have just gotten out of the habit of visiting Tiki Central so aside from a handful of threads there's not much activity outside of spurts. I know I'm guilty of popping in once a week or so, glancing at the latest posts and then galavanting off without leaving a comment. But Tiki Central remains an invaluable resource and your build photos will serve as inspiration to those building their own spaces for years to come.

GROG second what Prickles said!

Has anyone ever trimmed out the edge of cabinets with copper tubing?IMG_1604

No, but it sounds like an interesting idea. Those cabinets are sweet!

Thanks, Monk. On second thought I think I’m gonna trim it with wood so that I can have a lip to help with keeping things from falling off.
