Things that are NOT Tiki that work in your Tiki collection

If anyone wants to play along, feel free to post an image (or three) of things that are NOT Tiki, per se, but seem at home in your collection/bar.

Two of my examples are this jolly ceramic fellow:

... And a whimsical Japanese pufferfish toothpick holder:

Both gifted to me by my lovely wife, who is getting better at finding Tiki for me while out on her thrift store jaunts.

P.S. please do contribute, however shameful, but please refrain from "Yucking other people's yums".

If it's not for you, it's... not for you.

Not Tiki. But somehow aligned, via the over the top 80s restaurant aesthetic. You remember—on your third trip to the train car shaped salad bar you spilled the creamy Italian dressing all over the stinky carpet? Those were the days.

Love it! Now I wonder what "Oarsman bread and butter" was? Soggy heat-tray bread with a fancy name always tasted better, I guess.

And $8.95 for lobster? By Grabthar's hammer, what a savings!

Another menu, another Tiki adjacent dining experience. Grew up going here with grandparents. The entry was a tropical cave/tunnel water feature with a rope bridge leading to a wizard statue. When you pushed his crystal ball the doors flew open into the restaurant. You can’t make this stuff up…

The pufferfish toothpick holder found a girlfriend this weekend.

Not Tiki but this TV lamp from the 1950s has that Gidget Goes Hawaiian beach vibe. It was gifted to us by a relative. The maker is Barsony, a post WW2 Hungarian migrant to Australia. He started making lamps and similar items in the 1950s and was very popular. There is hula girl lamp base that is most sort after. Examples now sell for well over $1000 Australian dollars.IMG_20251127_112201[1]

Here's a second photo of the Barsony TV lamp showing that I does blend with tiki decor. My son and I some years ago enjoying a brew at my Tiki Bar.Damien and me

That's really cool, I've never seen one before! Awesome bar too!

So many things are not considered "tiki" by someone or another. Whatever. I assume my samurai sword is a no-no. sam

Regardless, it will certainly help you defend your rum!
