Trader Vic's 1963 cigarette holder

Pages: 1 6 replies

I saw one of these cigarette holders in a local
antique shop yesterday. Very good condition. It is marked Trader Vic's 1963 on the bottom. It was from an estate and priced at $160.00. Is it worth half that? I thought I was going to see a tag for about $40.00.

It's not a cigarette holder, it's a honi honi mug. $160 is insane. $40 sounds about right.

Thanks Martiki. Checking around I see there are some reproductions that have the same Trader Vic's 1963 marking on the bottom. One site said they were made from the original mold, but by Tiki Farm. I didn't see anything about them on Tiki Farm's site though.

If it sells for $160, let me know so I can start calling some of my mugs pencil, toothbrush and cig holders.
Thanks

M

I think Tiki Farm stopped making them. They are still available at the Emeryville restaurant.

I got one about a year ago on ebay for ten bucks. I still see them often but don't pay attention to the going price. Mine says 1963 on the bottom but it's probably a repro.

I'm comparing mine and the one you've posted along with the three that are currently on ebay (search "trader vic") and I'd say mine's a repro and the one pictured above is vintage. The vintage one's have more detail and more color especially on the skin of the figures. Compare this one:

which looks like the one I have, with this one:

that I'd guess is the real deal.
