Does anyone have the 411 on the tiki store referenced in the Tiki Road Book, apparently near the George S. Pompidu Centre in the 1st Arondisment. My sister is going and I want a Parisian tiki souvenier. |

Good point. I suppose going to Paris for Tahitian tiki would be like going to (or being in) LA and getting Hawaiian tiki - oh, never mind. |

"Does anyne else find it a bit weird going to Paris and getting Tiki stuff?" Somewhat, but anything that gives the French people some taste and culture, I say it's a good thing. Medre, I'm a gonna get some letters for that one. Do send them to "Tiki Complaints" care of Koalacharms. I have a whole file of "Hey Bud, why you outbid me on this item? bitch-fests" Tiki in non-traditional locales for that genre does interest me some, though. I just got back from Venice and found, what I believe to be, the world's most expensive Mai-Tai. If I got the currency conversion correct it sells for a bit over twenty-five U.S. And no, they don't kiss you when they serve the drink. I asked. That costs extra. midnite |

Not Harry's Bar? (The one in Venice, obv.)I sold a kidney for 2 of their martinis last December. Very tasteful & exquisite service though. They were very polite when they escorted my wife and I out the back door when a French-Canadian of 10 minutes acquaintance decided to abuse an 'Italian Businessman' who was sat with about 8 models for company. It was suddenly getting very Liam Gallgher/Trader Vic's (See previous Tiki Central posts) but they handled it superbly. As for France, it didn't say something along the lines of 'Looked through a window and saw Tiki'? A truly ancient Parisian report of mine on Tiki Central (Yahoo) found it's way onto the Tiki bar Review webpages in bits and pieces and I think I mentioned a shop near the Pompidou Centre. It was actually an antiques shop with a huge Tiki in the window, but I expect it's been sold by now. Virani probably has the most up-to-date info regarding Paris & Tiki. Trader Woody |

Not Harry's Bar? (The one in Venice, obv.) Nah, but I do still have two of them Harry's "Bellini" glasses from a visit my folks made there long ago. The Mai-Tai in question was at the bar in the Danieli. Great place, especially if you're into that game: "Tee hee, that bite of food was $14...have some of this champagne cocktail, that was $6 worth! Don't fall asleep, it's 70 cents a minute to stay here!!" Fantabulous hotel, classic city... many "wet yourself at the amount of the bill" experiences. Soggy trousers and an epmty wallet: my memories of Venice. Hey, just like my usual weekend night in college.
Ah yes, the Champain Supernova, classic thread. Good times, good TC times. Speaking of them battlin' Gallaghers...I am going to Chicago next month and I'll miss the Oasis gig by a few days. Have to spend the money on Zombies at the Chi Vic's. |
