Here is a list I made, I'd love to know yours! Some of the hours listed are weekend only-weekday hours differ. CODE- (R) is restaurant (B) is bar. (R/B) Means both bar and restaurant are worth checking out! (R/B)TRADER VICS 9 Anchor Dr. Emeryville 510-653-3400 PENINSULA- SOUTH BAY- PS-If people add to their OWN posts it would be great if you could edit your existing post so we have all the info as tightly as possible and not one hundred posts from say three members. It makes it easier to print for traveling. Thanks, keep adding them!! [ Edited by: mrsmiley 2005-08-10 16:04 ] [ Edited by: mrsmiley 2005-10-31 13:09 ] |

I don't have time to list them all, so I'll do it by neighborhood, starting with my favorite neighborhood North Beach: BARS: TOSCA - open since 1918 - amazing Opera themed bar - time warp SPEC'S TWELVE ADLER MUSEUM AND CAFE - chockablock with chotchkeys! VESUVIO CAFE - beat hangout since 1948, homey, lots of wood, good on rainy days CAFE TRIESTE - old Italian coffee house and original beat hangout TONY NIK'S - well-preserved moderne bar with friendly staff I can't possibly list all the good restaurants in North Beach, but a few of my favorites are: Favorite night clubs: PURPLE ONION - old cellar comedy club recently reopened - 1025 Columbus Ave. |

NOC NOC NocNoc is the unification between Flintstones primitivism and Kraftwerk/Chris&Cosey electronic modernism, mixing cutting-edge dance music with prehistoric and post-apocalyptic decor. An array of neon and black lights dimly illuminate the space. Sit at the pomo metallic bar or or balance drinks on the ameoba-shaped tables or sit on throw pillows set atop splatter-painted floors. The use of television screens on static, the amoeba shaped furniture, the dramatic red coloring, all tied together by a prehistoric theme made for many incredible druken evenings. The beer was good, although I preferred the Sake. Has the steely blue vibe of the Toronado Room down the street managed to stay open? BIX Bix is a beautiful supper club, complete with jazz combo playing and 1940s murals gracing the walls. Sip champagne from pre-chilled glasswear with the bottles resting atop the bar in a icefilled punchbowl - Bix creates this type of an enchanting evening - once you find this out-of-the way jewel, tucked off the main drag down an alley. I highly recommend their enourmous shrimp pu-pu platter. REDWOOD ROOM Clift's famous and historic Redwood Room has been restored into another glamourous, 1940s, Art Deco jewel. The original redwood paneling glows by the candle light. According to local legend, the very long bar of the Redwood Bar was carved from a single redwood tree, alas the name. Get there early, after 11pm, this bar is so hot there are lines around the corner.
