Wood question

Pages: 1 2 replies

I have a neighbor that is clearing some trees from his yard and I was wondering if the wood is good for carving.

First is a Macadamia Nut tree - it was damaged in the hurricanes of 2004-05 and has never recovered. I have a nice stump and supporting branches.

Second are some citrus trees - Tangerine and Grapefruit - I have my doubts about these but still curious.

Let me know. Thanks

F

Not so sure about certain types of carving, but have used Macademia Nut a few times making knife handles, you can get some really nice grain patterns a bit like Black Palm.

AS, Both those will make Beautiful carvings. Look for them both to be polenty HArd with a a very tight grain. The citrus is a Very Light colored wood that won't take stain easily if you sand it too finely.
