Ok, now here's some BIG news...

As some of you already know, we almost lost Susan Fong over the holidays. Here's a short recap of what happened.

Susie had been complaining for a while about feeling run down and had no energy. One morning right before Christmas she called her oldest daughter Lisa (who is a Doctor) and told her she thought she might need to go to the hospital. When Lisa arrived at Susie's she realized that her mom's condition was so bad that they need to get her to the nearest hospital and fast!

Susie had water in her lungs and congestive heart failure. She spent the entire holiday season in the hospital (most of it in ICU) and it was touch and go for a while. She is now home and recovering, still having a hard time speaking due to the breathing tubes she had while in the hospital, but she insisted on being at the Chef for the New Years celebration. Here she is speaking to the crowd...

...it was a pretty emotional speech. She talked about the past 35 years and the future of the Chef.

As of the beginning of February Susie's youngest daughter Betty and her husband Duane, officially took over the business, the day to day operations, and are the proud new owners of Chef Shangri-La! All in all they have great vision for the future of the Chef. They love the Hawaiian/Tiki motif and have no plans on changing that, just plans on improving what is there, like getting rid of the Asian stuff that's scattered about the place. They have plans on updating the washrooms again and fixing the roof above the Koi Pond so it doesn't leak any more. Subtle changes are already in the works, like they've put the thatch back on the roofs of the huts, changed up the front waiting area, and it's looking great so far. All in all it's new blood to keep the place running another 35 years or so!
