Yes, yes, I know, I know. There's only so much fun you can have in one weekend. April 21-22 in South Florida already features The 11th annual Hukilau and the fourth annual Miami Rum Renaissance Festival. That's enough to test one's endurance (and liver). We'll, if you're truly adventurous - and a surf music fan - you won't want to miss the two local appearances of the living legend of surf guitar, Dick Dale. He'll be performing on Saturday, April 21, in West Palm Beach and Sunday, April 22, in Miami. It's just a happy coincidence that his tour again comes to Florida at the same time as The Hukilau. I certainly don't need to double my work that weekend, but you do what you gotta do. (There are other Florida dates listed at DickDale.com for those who will be around longer or live around the state.) For those who wish to see it all, let me share my plans. It's very do-able, assuming you have reliable (sober) transportation. Fully enjoy The Hukilau's Saturday festivities, including dinner at The Mai-Kai. By 9 p.m., make a beeline north on I-95 (about a 40-minute drive) to West Palm Beach for Dick's Saturday show. He probably hits the stage around 11. On Sunday, bid your Hukilau friends farewell and hit the afternoon grand exhibition at Rum Renaissance, where you can sample dozens and dozens of rums from around the world and catch other events. Grab a nice dinner on South Beach and head over the bridge to Miami's Little Haiti (roughly 15 minute drive) to catch Dick at one of the world's great dive bars. Again he'll probably go on around 11, maybe later. If you arrive early, be sure to catch roots rocker Charlie Pickett, a South Florida treasure for 30+ years. Tickets are available for both shows in advance for just $20 at http://www.slammie.musictoday.com Don't miss this rare opportunity to see a rock 'n' roll legend and make your weekend even more memorable.
