Sadly, the Washington, DC region gave up all of it's Tiki glory years ago.
Trader Vic's closed down almost 20 years ago, and the last true Washington Tiki Bar, The Honolulu, closed 10 years ago. We are, however, fortunate that House of Foong Lin still keeps a torch burning with the area's widest selection of Tiki Drinks and even some classic Polynesian dishes to enjoy. (They still serve a Pu-Pu Platters with a wooden server and flaming hibachi in the center)

Wearing Tiki / Hawaiian / Island wear is not required, but strongly encouraged and rewarded. All first timers and those wearing some kind of Tiki / Hawaiian / Island wear will be entered into our weekly drawing. The prize will be (at minimum) a $5 Tiki Thirstday certificate, good for your next visit to Tiki Thirstday. A special door prize of a $20 Tiki Thirstday gift certificate will be drawn when we have an evening where we have 25 or more attending our Tiki Thirstday. All entries stay in the door prize pool, so the more often you visit and qualify, the better your chances are of being picked.

EASY PARKING: There is a 200 space municipal parking lot directly across the street. Meters range from 2 to 15 hours.

House of Foong Lin's charm is that they are an old school Chinese/Asian restaurant that kept the classic Tiki drinks going long after they all but disappeared from most menus. They have also been amazingly receptive to the local Ohana that have discovered this non-trendy oasis. They have brought in special rums to cater to their Tiki regulars, upped their game with several drink additions to the menu (a very respectable Black Magic, a Mai Tai '44 and Mai Tai 52, among them). Also, the food is absolutely first rate - some of the very best Chinese food in the Washington, DC area.

Twenty-seven was the magic number this last week. Our weekly Island Time getaway continues to draw a great mix of regulars and new people.

Last week we broke-in the new lounge sound system. It is a great addition to the ambiance of our Tiki Thirstday.

(As Always) Huge Mahaloz to Miss Ling, who makes our drinks, and Our Host, Chef Fu who has graciously given us use and the run of his lounge (and sweetened the deal with our Tiki Drink specials and wonderful food). They are delighted we are here and please take the time to let them know how much you are enjoying a place to Tiki with your friends and family. (If you have not yet met them, please let me know and I will introduce you!)

(Well deserved after spending so much weekend time putting together the new sound system we now enjoy every weekend!)

New addition to the lounge!

Have to hand it to Chef Fu, as our Tiki Thirstday group has grown, he's been working on adding more Tiki to the bar and lounge area. The thatch over the bar is now up, driftwood float lamps for the tables are on order,

and he's looking for 2-3 fan back chairs to have at a few of the tables in the lounge. And as mentioned earlier, there is now a separate sound system just for the lounge which allows us to play Exotica and other Tiki themed music for our added enjoyment every week.
