In addition to being an avid World War II re-enactor and memorabilia collector, Im fascinated by the photographs brought back by veterans from WWI through to Vietnam of faraway exotic lands...The US Navy having more access to distant ports allowed sailors to experience more ports and after a long time at sea, they definately made full use of the Liberty Ports and of course garnered the reputation for hard drinkin' and hard livin'. You can see this in the great photos of Sailors with Hula girls in Hawaii during the war. So when you see a sailor at a tiki event, rest assured he is ready to tie one on.
