I wanted to share some CD finds I made here in Hamburg, and even if they are not too Tiki, they are exotic and loungey, and I am sure some of you would dig them.

I really like it when record companies re-release old albums in the original cover design, AND in cardboard covers, not those crappy impractical plastic "jewel boxes", and these are done that way:

DAKTARI - Shelley Manne performs and conducts his original music for the Hit TV show.
On Atlantic Masters/Warner Jazz 75679 3065-2
Shelley Manne was a prolific West Coast Jazz drummer, who once had his own bar in L.A., the Manne Hole.

VACATION AT THE CONCORD - Machito and his Afro-Cuban Orchestra
On VERVE/Coral CRL 57258
From the New York resort, 1958

MANHATTAN LATIN - Dave Pike and his Orchestra
On VERVE, Decca DL 74568
A must for vibraphone jazz fans, New York 1964

AND, in line with my fable for cover version compilations (mentioned here:
https://tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=9672&forum=11&14 )
some Germans (?!) came up with a slew of such CDs (no Exotica yet):
16 versions of LIGHT MY FIRE (my fave is the Edmundo Ros version) RD 2433197
17 versions of SUMMERTIME (an estimated 2600 exist) RD 2333190
19 versions of FEVER RD 23331191

...and, while we are on the subject of cover versions, get NOUVELLE VAGUE's French lounge style interpretations of such Punk/New Wave classics such as The Clash's "Guns of Brixton", XTC's "Making Plans for Nigel", The Cure's "A Forest" and The Dead Kennedys' "Too Drunk to Fuck". Priceless.
