Also, back to the original question, if I am opening an old topic that has multiple pages, I usually click on the latest page number (page 2, page 3, whatever), so I can just read the most recent posts on the topic. Seeing a few old ones reminds me of the details and gets me back up to speed. Seeing only the newest one might be confusing though.
