Don't feel too bad about its loss of tikiness - I don't think it ever really had any. I have the brochure from back in the 1960s and the only Polynesian thing I can see is that great modernist, soaring A-frame sign. The rest of the buildings and interiors show nothing Polynesian at all - at least what they show in the brochure.

You, in turn, have just made my day- I was all but convinced we had missed greatness by THIS much. The sign is excellent!, a protected landmark, and still to this day used in all their advertising. Barring nasty weather, and bad drivers, it should be intact for years to come.
