I've noticed alot more tiki related things being associated with the weekender over the past 2 years. seems that tiki has taken a firmer hold on the rock-a-billy scene than it has in past years.....

I don't think this is a new development at all. Many of the folks I know that are into rockabilly and have been into it for a long time were collecting mugs and visiting tiki bars since way before there was a Viva Las Vegas weekend. It's always been a big part of the "scene" of people into the music, clothes, cars, etc. from the 1940s and 1950s.

But I'm sure the promoters of Viva Las Vegas took notice when Mondo Tiki was attended by so many people from the rockabilly weekender, and since then they have tried to throw in a tiki themed event into the mix.
