I fondly remember the first time I tasted the cracker of royalty in 1974.

At the time, my step-uncle was a controller for Castle & Cooke. As an executive he received 2 weeks in a private house on a then secluded area of beach owned by Castle & Cooke on O'ahu's north shore.

I went with him and my father and step-mother for my first trip to the islands.

The first night the house wasn't ready so we stayed at the Reef Towers in Waikiki. I saw Rip Torn at Trader Vic's at the International Market Place; downed my dad's booze; downed my step-mother's wine; smoked my uncle's pot. Life was good. The next day we headed to the north shore.

It was a sweet early 1900's house right on the beach. The caretaker was an elderly man that told us he was standing on those very grounds and saw the Japanese planes fly over to bomb Pearl Harbor.

It was a secluded area; As far as I could see up or down the coast, not a sole.

Learned to play dominos; drank my dad's booze; drank my step-mothers wine; smoked my uncle's pot.

BUT, the second day - someone bought the prince of crackers - WHEAT THINS, and I became an ardant subject.

(and they were GREAT for the munchies!)
