Its kind of a Tiki stretch but here are the events scheduled so far for Tahiti Week in Manhattan. Anyone in the area? TAHITI NON STOP WEEK April 25-29, 2005 Les Grands Ballets de Tahiti Tahiti’s vibrantly sensual dancers take over the Time Warner Center during Tahiti Non Stop Week with all the colour and noise of French Polynesia. Get up close and personal with this internationally renowned troupe of Tahitian dancers for three exclusive performances. Wednesday, April 27, 12:30pm and 5pm Time Warner Center Tastes of Tahiti Known as the champagne of vanillas, Tahitian Vanilla, the sweet, flowery pod of the orchid grown only in French Polynesia, turns up in unexpected forms under the skilled hands of two very different chefs. Sample Chef Brad Farmerie of Manhattan restaurant Public’s takes on this prized vanilla bean, alongside those of Chef Bruno Giordano of the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort in Tahiti, as they demonstrate Tahitian fare for the public. Wednesday, April 27, 1pm – 3pm Williams Sonoma Taste Tahitian Vanilla in all its guises during Tahiti Non Stop Week, as it turns up in everything from a Fraise Sauvage to a confit of duck and fois gras at the following locations. Public, 210 Elizabeth Street, 212 343 0918 Tiare – the Tahitian Gardenia Flown fresh from the gardens of Tahiti to New York for Tahiti Non Stop Week, the Tiare flower has a language of its own. Place it behind the left ear to signal that your heart is taken, or tuck it behind the right ear to indicate that you’re unmarried and open to proposals. Pluck a tiny but divinely fragranced flower of your own from the hands of Tahitian artisans and dancers at the Time Warner Center on April 27 and 28. NYC to Tahiti Non Stop For everything you ever needed to know about Tahiti and more, visit Tahitian travel experts at Spring Fair 2005, Vanderbilt Hall, Grand Central Station, every day from April 17 through May 7. |
