Since grenadine as a sweet syrup has been used in cocktails for so long I would say that the paste you found would have to be sweetened quite a lot to be an equal substitute.

Making your own grenadine is easy. There are many recipes online.

I'm lazy and I want to support Trader Vic's so I just buy grenadine from them.
